PRP Therapy in Barrington, IL

Platelet-rich plasma for joint pain and hair loss, prepared from your own blood and given by a provider after an evaluation.

Preventative Medicine by Science offers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy at the Barrington clinic. PRP is not right for everyone, so every plan starts with an evaluation, and you are told plainly if something else would fit you better.

What PRP Is

Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is spun to concentrate the platelets, and the concentrate is injected into the area being treated.

Who it may suit. Adults with joint or tendon pain, such as in a knee, shoulder, or elbow, who want to discuss a non-surgical option, and men and women with hair loss or thinning. Whether PRP is appropriate for you, and for which area, is decided at your evaluation. It is not a substitute for medical care of an injury or condition.

What a Visit Involves

Evaluation. Your provider reviews your history, current medications, and goals, and confirms whether PRP is appropriate.

Treatment. A visit takes about an hour. Blood is drawn, spun to concentrate the platelets, and the PRP is injected into the treatment area.

Plan. Many plans involve more than one session, spaced weeks apart. Your provider explains the schedule that fits you.

Mild soreness at the injection site is common afterward. Other risks, including infection and bleeding, are reviewed with you before you consent to treatment. Individual results vary, and no particular outcome is guaranteed.
